Off to Hawaii!!

My husband and I are off to Hawaii in a few hours.  This will be the first time without the kids, EVER!!  We are going to the big island, so if you have any tips on good places to eat and sightsee, please feel free to leave a comment.  I leave you with a picture of my daughter that I took this afternoon in my backyard.  Have a great week, everyone!!

Gina, I have family in Hilo so I enjoy local places there. I like Teri Burgers at Cafe 100 and the KTA store for food to take on an outing and talking stories with family. The Liliokalani Park and Akaka Falls are pretty for walks. Volcano National park is interesting-but there is an eruption happening now so I am not sure about visibility. Volcanos is about 22 miles from Hilo and has a lava tube that you can walk through. Enjoy!

hey gina!
we loved the big island! these were our favorite things to do while on the island:

1. Big Island Grill: Excellent breakfasts!!!!!!! Must go and eat there… their coconut syrup is amazing, their waffles are amazing, their loco moco is amazing… pretty much everything is amazing!

2. Big Island Ice Cream: Delicious, delicious ice cream made on site. I LOVE this place!

3. Tex Drive In: If you’re going to go see Waipi’o Valley (which you should TOTALLY make the effort to see) you must stop here for malasadas. The best I’ve ever had. For real.

4. Kona Brewing Company: Super yummy and great place for a sit down dinner.

5. We went to Hilo and thought it was totally lame and a waste of our time… we would have preferred going no farther than Tex Drive In to see Waipi’o Valley. Plus everything there closes by 5.

6. Hapuna Beach. Our favorite beach! Super nice and sandy. A little drive away but well worth it!

7. If you’re down for ukulele lessons, there’s a super nice guy that goes by Pancho-Man at Just Ukes on Ali’i Drive that gives one-hour lessons for only $10. My husband and our friend had a lesson and it was one of the funnest thing they did. He is totally undercharging and he’s super cool!
