Bokeh: a Japanese term for the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of a photographic image




To a photographer who is just starting out, this topic is SO exciting. I remember the first time I grasped this concept, it was the photo above taken of my daughter in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was an a-ha moment. You can even blur the front and the back as shown in the first photo. I love getting this depth in my photographic work, but as I learn more, I also realize that the blur should be DELIBERATE. That is my “tip of the day” for beginning photographers.
