Fifty-two on Fridays : [34] Bokeh

Bokeh:  a Japanese term for the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of a photographic image

To a photographer who is just starting out, this topic is SO exciting. I remember the first time I grasped this concept, it was the photo above taken of my daughter in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was an a-ha moment.  You can even blur the front and the back as shown in the first photo.  I love getting this depth in my photographic work, but as I learn more, I also realize that the blur should be DELIBERATE.  That is my “tip of the day” for beginning photographers.

Let’s go to Breeze Floyd | North Stonington, CT photographer to see what she did with “bokeh”.  If it was anything like that week (were you not in awe?), I am sure it will be nothing less than AMAZING.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Fifty-two on Friday (week 34)|Tucson Baby and Newborn Photographer « Tucson Wedding, Family, Baby, Senior Photographer – Stephanie Moore Studios

[...] It’s week 34 of our Friday project. I can’t believe it’s the end of August and we are almost into September, I wish time would slow down a bit. We are in Tucson now and nice and settled. The boxes are unpacked, there are pictures on the walls, and it feels like home. This week our project theme is bokeh. If you aren’t a photographer, you probably aren’t familiar with the term bokeh. I looked it up on Wikipedia and Bokeh is defined as “the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur,in out-of-focus areas of an image, or “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light.” You see bokeh in images all the time and just don’t realize that’s what it is. Here are some examples of pictures on my blog where you can really see the bokeh in the background of the image. Example one, example 2, and example 3. This week one of my dearest friends came to Tucson to visit for the day. We have been friends since 1st grade where I met her at our mutual friend, Jill’s sleepover party. She soon moved over by me and we went to middle school and high school together. We have always stayed close friends during the years but we have lived across the U.S from one another so haven’t seen each other as often as we want. It has been a year since we last met up and so I hadn’t met her ADORABLE little man yet. I was thrilled when she told me she was going to be in the Phoenix area and wanted to come up to Tucson for the day to play. We had so much fun. The thing I love about life long friends, is you can always pick back up where you left off. I took some pictures of her handsome boy, isn’t he a doll? I love the bokeh in the background! Now head over to my talented friend Gina’s site to see how she photographed some bokeh! Gina Maxine|San Luis Obispo Photographer [...]
